Costa Rica FAD & Seamount Fishing
What is FAD Fishing?
A Fish aggregating device (FAD) is a man-made device placed in the ocean, such as a buoy or float. This equipment can be floating or attached to the bottom of the water. The purpose of the FAD is to create a congregating area for fish, as many species are attached to floating objects and like to join them. This attracts large predatory fish such as Marlin and Billfish.
Off the Pacific coast of central Costa Rica, the FAD has been placed on shore containing underwater rocks that rise from the ocean. In waters as deep as 100 kilometers offshore, the seamounts require two nights of travel before anglers can fish all day, even if they have the option to continue.
What are the fishing methods for FAD Fishing?
Fishing techniques range from trolling with bait to trolling with live bait. We also offer competition and fly fishing kits for those looking for an extra challenger. The coast of Costa Rica is home to some of the best blue Marlin fishing in the world, and the addition of the FAD makes these waters unique.
What is the best time to fish at the FADs?
The main fishing season in the FAD usually runs from May to November and sometimes extends into mid-December, but it is possible to fish around the FAD all year around.
The interest amongst novice and avid anglers has grown tremendously for the Costa Rica FAD Fishing. The main reason for this is because of the incredible results that our brought back from a FAD Charter. A lot of boats from both Los Suenos Marina and Quepos Marina Pez Vela are promoting the FADs Charter because it is a unique opportunity for anglers to focus on really impressive size Marlins.
